The journey began September last year, and ended just yesterday.
The goal? To find the “Best Biryani” in Dubai and Sharjah.
Two Emirati friends Mohammed Sultan Thani and Majed Al Shamsi will present a trophy to Silver Spoon restaurant in Sharjah, after deciding that Silver Spoon were the creators of the “best mutton biryani” out of the two emirates.
The journey to find the best biryani had been well documented on their social media pages, which boasted more than 63,000 followers on Instagram and 35,000 on Snapchat.
“It was just a simple question on Instagram and Snapchat but we got so many names that we decided to check them out.
“We visited 54 restaurants in every nook and corner of Dubai and Sharjah,” Thani told Arabian Business.
A video posted to Thani’s Instagram from his Snapchat shows a chef making some biryani:
“But we never informed these restaurants about this contest. We just went there as regular customers.
“Only after shortlisting five of them in May this year, we informed them of our competition. We told them we are coming to check out their biryani and asked them to serve us their best biryani.”
The duo judged the biryanis on quality of ingredients, taste, presentation, cleanliness and price.
Fancy checking out Silver Spoon to see how good their biryani is? A plate will set you back just Dhs15.
It doesn’t end there, though. The Emirati friends say that their journey will continue to find the best biryanis in the other emirates, and plan to turn their experiences into a documentary.
What do you think? Do you agree with their verdict?
